MAJOR ACADEMIC AND RESEARCH INTERESTS:
Strategies to enhance cardiovascular and lung function and physical capacity in COPD, CHF, CAD ventilator dependent patients and elderly.  Physiotherapy treatment in hypertension.
Research focus on

  • Weaning from ventilator: Respiratory training and physical exercise.
  • Physiotherapy and exercise technique to increase functional endurance in COPD, CHF and elderly. : Dynamic hyperinflation, respiratory muscle strength,
  • Respiratory and physical exercise for ANS modulation in hypertension, CAD, COPD and elderly.
  • Physiological responses and efficacy of chest physiotherapy intervention for airway clearance and increase lung volume.

PRESENT RESEARCH PROJECT

    • Effectiveness of breathing exercise with 2 types of incentive spirometers on lung functions in the elderly.
    • Acute ventilatory and hemodynamic responses to head-down position in traumatic patients in a traumatic intensive care unit.
    • Slow loaded breathing: mechanisms underlying its antihypertensive effects and its potential for use in the management of COPD patients.
